STAY DAY of Service 2014
Casey McCarthy, the chair of our public service committee, and Ted Schmid, our Vice-President, joined other STAY members on April 27th to volunteer at the Yale Farm, part of the Yale Sustainable Food Project! Volunteers learned hands-on about sustainable agriculture right on campus while helping this important neighborhood resource!
Leadership Discussion with Prof. Tom Kolditz
STAY hosted a leadership discussion with SOM Professor Tom Kolditz (retired Brigadier General and former professor at West Point). Kolditz is a highly experienced global leader and has more than 26 years in leader roles on four continents. His career has focused both on leading organizations and studying leadership and leadership policy across sectors. In addition to hearing about his experience, students asked insightful questions such as “What specific leadership skills did you acquire while working for the US Army that you have successfully translated to the rest of your life?” and “How can the same leaders excel both in crisis and in stability?” Click on the last photo to see a sample of Tom’s talks!
Bulldog Days 2014 Reception #BDD2014
STAY and the Yale Alumni Nonprofit Alliance (YANA) welcomed prospective freshman at an evening reception at Rose Alumni House! Students mingled with current undergraduate students, graduate and professional students and alumni over classy snacks. We hope that students felt welcomed into the larger Yale community during their visit.
Financial Literacy Sessions
STAY-AYA Liaison Steve Blum, ’74 has been hosting excellent financial literacy programs for current students and for alumni. At Yale, he has held sessions in all residential colleges and for graduate and professional students. Alumni in Boston, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. have also been able to participate in BOLD financial literary sessions.
2014 Spring Leadership Forum
The Spring 2014 STAY/AYA Student Leadership Forum was the first to feature Yale Alumni–and it was a big success! More than 60 Yale alumni, undergraduates, and G&P students gathered to discuss leadership, share experiences, and gain knowledge from other Yale leaders. The two days were filled alumni presentations including Yale University Secretary and Vice President of Student Life, Kimberly Goff-Crews ‘83, ‘86JD, Executive Director of the AYA Mark Dollhopf ‘77, and Patricia ‘87 MD and Richard Gibbs ‘86 MD.
